Adapt2Achieve, a program of Disabled Sports USA, increases sports opportunities for individuals with disabilities by providing training to adaptive sports coaches, instructors and volunteers.
Training focuses on program best practices, organizational capacity building and sports-specific skill development, including the development of instructor training manuals and adaptive accreditation’s sanctioned by a National Governing Body.
Chapters are invited to apply for Adapt2Achieve funding in two categories. Projects can occur between Nov 1 2015 and Sept 30, 2016.
1. Host an Adapt2Achieve adaptive sports training (Grants of $5,000 – $10,000 are available in this category)
Examples of 2015 supported programs include a Paratriathlon conference, an Off-Road Handcycle Summit and USA Water-Ski Training and Certification events. Prerequisites include:
a. Training should be conducted by qualified individuals (i.e. NGB accredited to trainer level)
b. Priority goes to programs where an NGB accreditation, endorsement or certification is awarded to participants who complete and pass the course
c. There should be a minimum capacity of 10
d. Priority goes to training’s that allow for other DSUSA chapter attendance
2. Individual Adaptive Sports Certifications (Grants of up to $1,000 are available in this category)
Grants are available to support chapter volunteers, instructors and coaches seeking to expand their adaptive sports professional certifications. Prerequisites include:
a. Training must result in an NGB certification, accreditation or endorsement
b. Grants may support licensing, exam fees, membership fees and travel costs
c. Grants will only be awarded for those who complete and pass the course
d. Ski Spectacular expenses are not eligible for this opportunity
